0600 TO 0630–Radio Australia’s Pacific Beat AM program of the Pacific quake and tsunami of September 30, 2009. This program went to air 68 minutes after the first wire flash of a quake off American Samoa, Samoa and Tonga.

An 8.3-magnitude earthquake has hit just off the coast of American Samoa, just 180 kilometres from Hihifo in Tonga and 200 kilometres from Samoa’s capital, Apia.

Dave Fiumaono, an airport supervisor at Pago Pago airport in American Samoa, experienced the earthquake while at home, and has arrived at work to find waves have swept across the runways at the airport.
