Externals, Swanbourne Hotel, November 10, 1995

The full-house lights were up early at the Swanbourne Hotel for the CD launch of the External’s second offering, Anastasia’s Hand. With that ‘ol summer party atmosphere filling the warm night air I took my usual Externals viewing position – against the back wall and as far away from the usually-lethal noise level as possible. … Continue reading “Externals, Swanbourne Hotel, November 10, 1995”

Swervedriver; Ammonia, Planet, 6 December, 1995

It could have been described as ‘the march of the indie kids’, a packed Planet arena reverberating with the chatter of alternative music talk and the clatter of Converse sneekers. And Britian’s Swervedriver were soon to be the toast of the several generations of indie music fans squished against the rails, ears bleeding but bodies … Continue reading “Swervedriver; Ammonia, Planet, 6 December, 1995”

Mountain Hope; Botticelli’s Angel, Planet, November 3, 1995

The ‘Botts’ have long held up Perth’s end of the more energetic live music available, their stand-alone and credible local reference to the funk metal genre has been with us for near on five years now. It is funny to talk of a band with such longevity in terms of tightness, but on Friday night … Continue reading “Mountain Hope; Botticelli’s Angel, Planet, November 3, 1995”

Cinema Prague; Spank; Left Nut, All Ages, Halls Head Tavern, Mandurah, August 26, 1995

apologies for the word count Sue, but I grew up near and within this soul-destroying area and this project needs attention. If it doesn’t suit Revue thematics could you please pass it on, or at least the angst, to the right department. Ta. Choices are vast for people in Perth. Oh, so you disagree? Cry … Continue reading “Cinema Prague; Spank; Left Nut, All Ages, Halls Head Tavern, Mandurah, August 26, 1995”

Sic; Bloom; Humbug, PICA, August 19, 1995

One of the best enterprises of the music establishment in the past few years has been the all-ages WAM initiative, Act of Youth. Saturday’s gig at PICA again displayed their continuing success in the project which saw lollies rather than lager on the bar and local music as the drawcard, a project which Natalie from … Continue reading “Sic; Bloom; Humbug, PICA, August 19, 1995”

Rawkus; Nebula; Hateman Tribe, The Lone Star, August 4, 1995

Revline – Rawkus seconded by bridesmaid I packed my flannelette skivvy and leather earplugs for this, the return gig by the ex-‘loudest pub band in the world’, Rawkus. With a new lead singer, bass player and a rumoured ‘more melodic sound’, the crowd were primed for what was to eventually become pretty unspectacular.
