Medical interpreters at front line in Victoria

When you seek medical advice, it goes without saying that being able to communicate your problem is pretty important.

And getting your message across can be more difficult if English is not your first language.

This is the experience for almost 45 percent of people admitted into the emergency department of some Victorian hospitals.

This is where interpreter services are vital, and as Adam Connors reports, there’s new research that’s highlighting the need for language and interpreter services in healthcare nationwide.

He’s speaking with the Chair of the Victorian Hospitals Diversity Network, Celia Wigzell.
