HONG KONG–After finally working out a reliable way to get analogue cassette archives of radio interviews onto my machine, here they are streaming online, under the title Broadcast: The Eels’ E; The Posies‘ Ken Stringfellow; Weezer‘s Brian Bell; The 3Ds‘ Dave Saunders; Shonen Knife‘s Naoko Yamano; Butthole Surfers‘ King Coffey; Lush‘s Phillip King; Tripping Daisy‘s Mark Pirro; Effigy‘s Pete Hardman; Ammonia‘s Dave Johnstone; Primus‘ Les Claypool; Magic Dirt‘s Adelita; Morphine‘s Billy Conway; Swervedriver‘s Jez; and Garbage‘s Butch Vig. Just finished All the King’s Men and The Secret History – whoah, I’ve rediscovered novels.

HONG KONG–Excellent, some voices of sanity have returned following the recent bout of “regime change”: US anger at Annan remarks where Annan fleetfootedly refers to “occupying forces”; BBC chief attacks US media war coverage – “If Iraq proved anything, it was that the BBC cannot afford to mix patriotism and journalism,” Greg Dyke – oh, and the Dixie Chicks. Let it be said I’d rather eat nails than listen to CW, but there’s a great rail against ignorance in the full EW interview. Latest vids: Just Because I’m 7; Markos n Geet do HK. Can I go (to Melb) now?

LIAM GOAT FUKUI, JAPAN–“I agree with goat – bring back ‘Everyone’s a winner’. On another note they are still producing many Goats of Joy products here in Japan. You can buy the Goats of Joy ‘Delicacy’ (the edible car) from vending machines and the Goats of Joy Match Making School’s PhD course has just commenced. Unfortunately the Goats of Joy ‘Umbrella’ (it’s like a portable roof) is no longer hip. (rtrfm.com.au 2003-04-04).” Site update: eepeeanjisex. Get your MASKS on! And happy In The Pines my Perth posse!

ADM GOAT HONG KONG–“Our local HK scientific staff are taking a moment out of their busy epidemic outbreak to bring you a new product: the Goats of Joy “Piner” – it’s finer when pineless to have the Piner. With two pinecones strapped upon ones head like headphones, some beer goggles and a mouthful of garden variety sand, one can enjoy Somerville Auditorium’s big day without leaving the 37th floor of your Hong Kong skyscraper or cosy Japanese onsen! Wonder’s never cease to cease ever with the Goats of Joy. (rtrfm.com.au 2003-04-11)”

HONG KONG–Required reading and listening: BBC News How ’embedded’ reporters are handling the war; The Independant The uprising that wasn’t, mythical chemical weapons and other items of ‘breaking news’; The Smoke Hammer Bushwacked – the plunderphonics here is just ace; The Fire This Time audio files – ‘… a guide to the language of mass media propaganda’; lighter moment in the form of Brenda and Eddy from a 1997 rant (thanks Al Humphry!).

HONG KONG–Michael Moore at Oscars: “I’ve invited my fellow documentary nominees on stage with us here in solidarity with me because we like non-fiction and we live in fictitious times. We live in the time where we have fictitious election results that elect a fictitious president. We live in a time where we have a man who’s sending us to war for fictitious reasons, whether it’s the fiction of duct tape or the fiction of orange alerts. … We have a man sending us to war for fictitious reasons. We are against this war, Mr. Bush. Shame on you, Mr. Bush, shame on you.” Necessary reading: thefirethistime.org | Howard’s future on line | Get Your War On (no. 22; “shock and awe”). HONG KONG–Gee it’s hard to type in this medical mask ;) Hello and welcome to the near- ground zero of influenza-like outbreaks. Anji just called from a Sigur Ros gig in DC, held up the phone for a section of Staralfur so I could hear. I’m as jealous as heck, as per usual. New additions: The Crunch Movie from Stefi in Germany, one of her multimedia projects; anjiandboysong by me; coming soon – found some VERY bizarre old articles from 1994-’98; a movie from Geet with me sticking my daft face in front of the camera too often. Projects completed: intranet for AOL Time Warner/Turner/Time Inc. for HK (can’t link to it, apologies), michealcaronna.com photography showcase.
