Officials quit over Afghan jirga security

The chiefs of Afghanistan’s interior ministry and intelligence have abruptly resigned following a series of failed attacks at the opening of last week’s peace jirga.

Both are believed to have been hauled in front of President Hamid Karzai to explain the security lapses which endangered the lives of 1,500 Afghan elders.
