More than 50 former top Philippine government officials have issued a statement urging President Gloria Arroyo’s cabinet to resign over a multi-million dollar corruption scandal. There’s been a Senate probe into allegations of 130 million US dollars of bribes in a state telecoms deal with China’s ZTE Corporation.

Part of the investigation involves accusations that Dr Arroyo’s husband, and a presidential ally, have been involved.
On Friday, around 10,000 people gathered in Manila’s financial district calling for the President’s resignation. And on Sunday, more than 4-thousand people, including former president Corazon Aquino, attended a special mass for one of the whistleblowers in the ZTE scandal, Rodolfo Lozada.
