ETimor’s struggle from within

The struggle for political control of East Timor’s Fretilin Party continues against allegations of “hit” squads, and as rebel soldiers still stake-out in the mountains around the Dili.

The country’s unpopular Prime Minister Mari Alkatiri and former resistance hero Xanana Gusmao are at loggerheads over the leadership of the party, and it’s the East Timorese people who are suffering.

Dateline’s David O’Shea was at the Fretilin Party Congress, and has spoken with several of the players close to the falling-out between the two leaders.
